How to stand out when introducing yourself?

Have you ever listened to someone introducing themselves and you had no clue what that person was doing?

It goes like…

You: “What do you do?”

Other person: “I’m a system integrations specialist, managing and maintaining related systems, APIs and processes”

Jeeeez. Take it easy. After hearing an answer like would you be interested in knowing more about that person or would you remember that other person?

Probably not, right?

Most of us try really hard to have a very boring, overly complicated, and extremely unmemorable introduction.

So what can you do instead to stand out and make the other person remember you?

Here are two examples (one good and one bad example) on how I could introduce myself to a c-level executive (as business storytelling coach):

Bad example: “I’m a business storytelling coach helping executives use stories to inspire in business.”

Good example: “Well, imagine that you and your management team just prepared the new 10 core values of your company. You feel quite good about them and now you want to communicate them to your employees. Tricky part is that often when employees hear these values, they don’t really internalise them. Corporate values can be a bit abstract. What can you do to make them come to life? You can tell a short story that underlines the value. That’s where I come in. I help leaders craft short stories to become more memorable, build rapport, and inspire action.”

How would you introduce yourself?

Much love!
